Concerning the Quadrupole - Quadrupole Interaction

We address some properties of the quadrupole-quadrupole (Q · Q) interaction in nuclear studies. We first consider how to restore SU (3) symmetry even though we use only coordinate and not momentum terms. Using the Hamil

Density functional explorations of quadrupole coupling constants for BN, BP, AlN, and AlP graphene–like structures

Stabilizations and atomic level quadrupole coupling constant (CQ) properties have been investigated for graphene–like monolayers (G–monolayers) of boron nitride (BN), boron phosphide (BP), aluminum nitride (AlN), and aluminum phosphide (AlP) structures. To this aim, density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to optimize the model structures and also to evaluate the CQ para...

The Onset of Chaos with a Quadrupole–quadrupole Interaction

The transition from order to chaos in atomic nuclei has been studied analytically and numerically using a quadrupole–quadrupole residual interaction. This interaction leads to chaotic behaviour, but the critical energy E C ≃ 12.6 MeV, corresponding to the onset of chaos, is higher than that of the experimental one.

Quadrupole - quadrupole interaction calculations which include N = 2 mixing

We carry out a study of the study of the Q · Q interaction in a model space which consists of several nucleons in an open shell and all 2¯ hω excitations. Xo 2 Q · Q, where for t=1 we get the 'accepted strength'. In the 0p space, the spectrum would scale with t. In this space, the 2 + 1 and 2 + 2 states of 10 Be are degenerate, as are the [330] and [411] sets of J = 0 + , 1 + and 2 + triplets. ...

The Isovector Quadrupole-Quadrupole Interaction Used in Shell Model Calculations

An interaction −χQ ·Q(1+B~τ(1) · ~τ(2)) is used in a shell model calculation for 10Be. Whereas for B = 0 the 21 state is two-fold degenerate, introducing a negative B causes an ‘isovector’ 2+ state to come down to zero energy at B = −0.67 and an S = 1 L = 1 triplet (J = 0+, 1+, 2+) to come down to zero energy at B = −0.73. These are undesirable properties, but a large negative B is apparently n...
